Research Title: Exploring Risk Identification in Infrastructure Projects: Insights from Academic Literature and Industry Interviews

Researcher: Aleksandr Novikov

Research supervisor: Ray Payne

About the Project

The project addresses issues inherent to infrastructure projects, including budget and schedule overruns, procurement and contracting issues, as well as errors in the design and delivery of projects. By analyzing the alignment and discrepancies between industry perceptions and academic findings, the project seeks to establish areas for improving risk identification, enhancing the quality of risk registers, and contingency planning in infrastructure projects.

Aim of the Research

The focus of the project is on areas within risk management processes where specific risk identification and classification methods can be applied to increase the likelihood of project success. Infrastructure projects are known for their low rate of completion within initially established constraints due to inherently large amount of risk and uncertainty.

By exploring academic literature on the subject  of risk identification and consulting with industry practitioners and experts in risk management, it is sought to establish potential areas of improvement through comparative analysis of findings.
